A fixture of B.C.’s electronic new music scene has suffered a serious mountain biking incident. 

Mat Andrew—or, as most know him, Mat the Alien—suffered a “terrible mountain bike” crash on October 2 and was instantly airlifted to Vancouver Typical Clinic for an crisis surgery on his vertebrae and spinal twine, in accordance to a GoFundMe campaign set up to aid him.

Andrew has been a fixture of Whistler’s club scene for more than 20 many years, obtaining moved to the group in 1995. He also played in Sunlight Peaks throughout Snowbombing Canada in 2017 and was scheduled to play at Masa’s in February of 2020. 

“I snowboarded just about every day in the winter and mountain biked just about every working day in the summertime,” explained Andrew in an 2013 interview. 

In addition, Andrew has toured B.C. thoroughly, taking part in marquee festivals, which includes Shambhala and Bass Coastline several times. 

Andrew played a specially memorable set at the 2018 Bass Coastline together with The Librarian (Andrea Graham), the co-founder and music director of the pageant, which is held yearly in Merritt, BC. 

“Mat had often lifted me up, encouraged me, and been supportive in lifetime and in tunes,” wrote Graham in a Fb put up. 

“He is extremely caring and offering. It is time to rally and support him in the course of this complicated journey.”
